Overview
What is Antanuca? This is a special and sacred place located between Machu Picchu and Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. It was a spiritual center for the Incans and pre-Incan people. On this land exists the Incan school, Yachaywasy, farming terraces, an amazing view of the stone quarry, Qachicata and the snow-capped glacier Wacaywillki (Veronika). Looking below Antanuca to the valley floor you will see the Urubamba River which runs to Machu Picchu. When touring Peru, you enjoy this memorable and exclusive experience. There are many ways to enjoy touring in the Sacred Valley, however, none as private and unique as a visit to Antanuca.
Itinerary
Day 1
After breakfast at your hotel, we’ll pick you up and start on a walk from the town of Ollantaytambo along the original Inca trail to Antanuca. During this walk we’ll see some of the stones which were brought from the quarry to be used at the Temple of the Sun. We’ll also view Incan tombs on our gentle, 1.5-hour walk (option exists for transport by car or even horseback) which ends at the Incan school Yachaywaysi. This is an ideal location for an ancient blessing ceremony in honor of Pachamama (Mother Earth). This Incan school is on private land and you will be able to explore without any other tourists. Its location is perfect for a rest, meditation or yoga.
Optional activities: thrilling zipline or via ferrata at Vertical Sky Suites
After our break, we’ll continue another 40 minutes to the platforms at Antanuca where you will experience luxury camping under a blanket of starts this evening. Once at Antanuca you will enjoy a delicious Pachamanca lunch prepared in the earth as our ancestors did. This will be a participative event where you will be able to prepare the vegetables and meats for the earthen oven. Following lunch, as part of our reforestation effort, you will be invited to plant native, medicinal trees in honor of a person in your life and to honor this sacred location. Your loved one will have another lifetime energetically sharing their spirit and knowledge with the land.
Later relax and explore the organic gardens or go for a short walk. After an afternoon rest, we’ll collect some firewood and take a short walk up to the ridge to watch the sun set. Dinner will be a memorable and delicious event at 10,200 ft / 3100 m in the exclusive Kuntur restaurant with a sunset view of the entire valley. This view doesn’t exist anywhere else in the Sacred Valley.
After dinner, enjoy a bonfire, hot showers and real mattresses in your tent. The elevation of Antanuca is 10,000 ft / 3,000 m
